Five Northeast Ohio men who have spent a combined 95 years in prison have found rehabilitation and religion while incarcerated.

The Plain Dealer reports that the men were incarcerated for crimes ranging from sexual offenses to felonious assault – and one was even falsely imprisoned. The one thing they did share in common was their growth in faith while in prison.

The five got together and formed gospel group Spirit ‘N’ Faith.

Singer Reginald Richardson says fellow inmates and prison officials were convinced that the group was formed to impress the parole board. Richardson says that when others saw how the men had changed, including no longer using profanity or gambling, the changed their tune.

Now out of prison, the surviving members – two died after being released – have gotten the group back together. They plan on playing a concert in Cleveland this October. The proceeds will be donated to the Cleveland Rape Crisis Center in the names of the 11 women killed by convicted serial killer Anthony Sowell
