Connie Schultz, the longtime Cleveland Plain Dealer columnist and Pulitzer Prize winning journalist, has resigned from the Plain Dealer, according to the paper.
Schultz had worked at the Plain Dealer for nearly 18 years.
She is the wife of U.S. Senator Sherrod Brown (D-Ohio), who is up for reelection in 2012, and she said that she can no longer work for the news outlet that covers his campaign on a daily basis.
“In recent weeks, it has become painfully clear that my independence, professionally and personally, is possible only if I’m no longer writing for the newspaper that covers my husband’s senate race on a daily basis,” Schultz wrote in a letter to colleagues. “ It’s time for me to move on.”
Schultz is also the author of two books: “Life Happens: And Other Unavoidable Truths,” and “His Lovely Wife: A Memoir from the Woman Beside the Man.”
