Cleveland’s airwaves just got a little quieter.
Chuck Collier, one of the city’s most popular and beloved radio hosts, has died. He was 65 years old.
A spokesperson from WTAM 1100 confirmed that Collier passed away Thursday of a massive heart attack. He had reportedly been with family and friends in southern Ohio at the time of his death.
The New Vienna, Ohio, native was an afternoon host and music director at country station 99.5 WGAR. Listeners also got to hear him during the day on Majic 105.7. Both stations are owned by Clear Channel.
Collier had worked at WGAR for 40 years, starting when the station was an AM channel playing adult contemporary music.
In 2009, the local legend was inducted into the Country Music Radio Hall of Fame. A few years earlier, in 2005, Collier was honored in the Ohio Radio-TV Broadcasters’ Hall of Fame. He won the National Association of Broadcasters’ Marconi Award as Large Market Radio Personality of the Year in 2007.
