On October 5, 2011, Captain Harry Anderson turns 102!!

A captain on the Great Lakes for many years, Anderson manned the helm of many ships from the William G. Mather to the Cliffs Victory. He was born in Sweden and came to America on a ship back in 1919, and has been sailing ever since.

Anderson is now a resident of The Harbor Court in Rocky River, an assisted living and memory care community.

Anderson started his career in 1946 and retired as a captain with Cleveland Cliffs in 1974. He spent most of his life as a resident of Lakewood.

Anderson is the oldest member of the International Shipmasters Association’s (ISA) Cleveland Lodge #4. ISA is a voluntary organization of dues-paying licensed professional mariners and others associated with the vessel industry. The association’s roots extend to 1883.
