As previously reported, Reverend Al Sharpton’s 87-year-old mother, Ada, has died following a long battle with Alzheimer’s disease and dementia.
The funeral is set for tomorrow, Tuesday at Center Baptist Church in Newville, Alabama and Rev. Sharpton himself will deliver the eulogy.
Visitation for Mrs. Sharpton will be today, Monday, March 26, at Center Baptist Church from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m.
The funeral will follow a wake at 11 a.m. Tuesday.
Rev. Sharpton learned of his mother’s death Thursday as he was headed to Florida, where he led a protest related to the Trayvon Martin case.
He tweeted the this message:
“My mother, Ada Sharpton passed in the early hours of this morning. She was my all. I hope God will give her now, PEACE.I love you, Mom,” Sharpton tweeted Thursday morning. “I am on a flight to Florida and will move forward with our plans to protest the killing of Trayvon Martin. My MOM would have wanted me to.”
According to Rachel Noerdlinger, Rev. Sharpton’s spokesperson, Martin Luther King III, Judge Greg Mathis, NAACP President Benjamin Jealous and Rev. Jesse Jackson are among those to pay tribute to Mrs. Sharpton.
