The community will have the chance to speak up on the latest plans to lay off 500 teachers in Cleveland Public Schools.

Cleveland Mayor Frank Jackson and the C.E.O. of Cleveland Public Schools will hold a community meeting Tuesday night. It will take place at Gunning Recreation Center on Puritas Avenue in Cleveland. It runs from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m.

The topic of the meeting will be the mayor’s plan for transforming schools.

This comes after last week’s school board decision to lay off about 500 teachers and more than 50 support staff to try and fill a $66 million deficit.

The district has said class sizes will not increase but about an hour will be cut from the school day for kids in kindergarten through the eighth grade. Other ways the district will cut costs include consolidating central administration and selling the downtown administration building.

Tuesday’s meeting is the third of three meetings detailing the mayor’s plan.
