Cleveland Heights-University Heights fifth-grade teacher Jazmine Monroe was doing her homework Monday afternoon. She, along with 600 other teachers, were shopping for cultural resources at Playhouse Square.

“Fair on the Square”, in its 19th year, brings 65 locals arts organizations to the State Theater stage, where teachers can find what is available for their students.

“It’s kind of hard to find some really great field trips or things that connect the students to what they’ve learned in school, so this is a really great exhibit to find all of those resources at,” she said.

Well-known organizations like the Cleveland Playhouse, the Holden Arboretum and the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame are great places for field trips.

Other less-known organizations, like the Musical Theater Project, use the Playhouse Square event to nurture relationships.

“We have very affordable, accessible programs that go out to the school,” said Heather Meeker, managing director of the Musical Theater Project. “We find this venue is a great way to tell our story and to establish those partnerships so that we can actually go out to the schools and make that happen.”
