A Blood drive held at Quail Hollow was packed with donors Wednesday.

With the standoff between the American Red Cross of Greater Cleveland and the blood collectors’ union headed into its fourth month, there are less community drives for people to donate.

The 250 members of Teamsters Local 507 walked off the job on Valentine’s Day over issues with working conditions and health benefits.

Despite ongoing talks, the union and the Red Cross have not come to an agreement on a new employment contract.

The Red Cross is using supervisors and trainees to help with collections in the absence of the workers on strike, but the number of blood drives has also decreased.

An average day in Northeast Ohio used to see 20 to 25 blood drives. That number is now down to five a day.

Since February, that’s almost 2,400 cancelled blood drives and countless pints that will not go to local hospitals
