Mark Aug. 17 down on your calendar: That’s the day Aretha Franklin is presenting a gospel concert at her late father’s church, New Bethel Baptist, 8430 C.L. Franklin Blvd. in Detroit.
Headlining the concert will be the “Queen of Gospel,” Pastor Shirley Caesar, along with the Five Blind Boys of Alabama, the Rev. Donald Parsons of Logos Baptist Church in Illinois and Evangelist Dottie Peoples.
Doors will open at 6 p.m. and there will be a soul food spread with baked chicken, greens, macaroni and cheese, oxtail soup, spaghetti, Nikola’s barbecue, peach cobbler and much more.
