Cleveland’s Feast of the Assumption began Wednesday in Little Italy and runs through Saturday evening along Mayfield Road.
The Feast of the Assumption of the Virgin Mary is a celebration of faith, food, fun and family.
Helen Presti stands along side her grandson, Chet Marcin, at their Presti’s Bakery stand. She proudly shows off desserts she baked for the Feast.
“My mother started Presti Bakery in 1920. I was a little girl and I used to work in the bakery. Now, I’m an old lady and can’t do anything,” she said while laughing.
At 92 years of age, Presti retired from baking for Presti’s Bakery years ago but can’t resist baking for this special occasion.
Gina and Anthony Quagliata brought their young daughter, Lyla, to her second Feast. Gina tasted bruschetta while Anthony held Lyla with one arm and held pesto pasta in the other.
“You see everybody you know, that you grew up with, people you haven’t seen in years, and the food,” Gina said as she surveyed the food tents.
Singers serenade strolling diners in front of the church while others sit on a nearby curb enjoying lemon ice.
The feast, in its 114th year, closes at 11 p.m. Wednesday and Thursday, and midnight Friday and Saturday. Tours of Holy Rosary Church will be at 6:30 p.m. each evening. A list of church events can be found here .
Mayfield Road is closed each evening from Circle Drive south of Euclid Avenue to East 126th Street.
