When the going gets tough, the tough give thanks.

Having an attitude of gratitude even in trying times is key to living our life purpose, according to the teachers Oprah calls her “spiritual squad.”

In an episode of “Oprah’s Lifeclass,” Oprah takes the stage with her superstar co-teachers — Tony Robbins, Bishop T.D. Jakes, Deepak Chopra and Iyanla Vanzant — to tackle how to be thankful when you feel there’s nothing left to appreciate.

“Life is going to stop in different places, and we’ve got to get grateful for every stop along the way,” Iyanla Vanzant tells Oprah. Even when you experience sorrow, “each stop is teaching us something we need to know for getting to the ultimate end of the journey.
“Life strategist Tony Robbins says that gratitude packs a powerful punch against anger and fear. “Fear is why we don’t take action and anger is why we get stuck,” Tony says. “You can’t be grateful and angry simultaneously. You can’t be fearful and be grateful simultaneously. So it’s really the reset button.”

Thankfulness is a life tool that connects us back to a divine power, he says — and spiritualist Deepak Chopra agrees. “The power, the wisdom, the creativity of the universe — you open the door through gratitude,” says Deepak.
In the video, Deepak shares a time when he wasn’t so grateful. He says that while studying neuroendocrinology, he realized that his true gift was to help people heal and transform — and that moment sparked feelings of gratitude.
Iyanla says that finding something to appreciate is about looking inward, and that “it’s about the way [you] tell your story.”
