Hollywood may have a well-deserved reputation for being a spiritual wasteland, but faith is hardly absent from Tinseltown.
- The Basketball Wives reality star Evelyn Lozada told new age spiritualist Iyanla Vanzant that she is learning to become a “servant of God” during life classes aired on the OWN Network in September. Lozada went to Vanzant after she was outed publically for her violent tendencies on the basketball reality show. Though there were many fighters on the show, Lozada infamously jumped across a table to “kill” co-star Jennifer Williams. Lozada later married and divorced professional football player Chad “Ochocinco” Johnson after he head-butted her during an argument.
- Jada Pinkett-Smith and her husband Will have been battling divorce rumors since 2011. Pinkett-Smith told Essence Magazine that the gossip has tested her faith much like Job’s faith was tested in the Bible. When asked if she was bitter, Pinkett-Smith told the magazine, “No. Because here’s the thing. Think about how blessed I am. Like, that’s part of the laws of the universe.”
- Virginia native Gabby Gabrielle Douglas became America’s sweetheart after she became the first African-American woman to ever win the gold medal in Women’s Gymnastics All-Around competition in the 2012 summer Olympics. She immediately took to Twitter to celebrate the achievement. She tweeted, “Let all that I am praise the LORD; may I never forget the good things He does for me.” Douglas has since published a memoir entitled, Grace, Gold, Glory.
