Over the last few years, Zacardi Cortez has become one of the most talked about artists in gospel music. His booming voice danced over James Fortune & FIYA’s #1 smash, “I Believe,” in 2010. Within a short time, he’s collaborated with artists ranging from R&B chanteuse Lalah Hathaway to gospel legends such as John P. Kee and Fred Hammond. This Sunday, February 10 @ 9:00 AM EST, Cortez will perform his latest hit “God Held Me Together” on BET’s “Bobby Jones Gospel” cable TV program.

The Houston native caused a stir this past Sunday when he appeared on BET’s “Lift Every Voice” celebrity news show and revealed that he had once been a drug dealer prior to recommitting himself to his Christian faith. “Zacardi’s social media sites blew up with people who were impressed that a young man like Zacardi would leave that street life and turn his life over to God,” says Kerry Douglas, CEO of Worldwide Music. “Zacardi’s story shows that we can all be redeemed and forgiven through Christ and Zacardi’s now having success without having to do the things he used to do to make it.”

Success is right. Cortez’ debut CD “Zacardi Cortez: The Introduction” (Worldwide Music) was released in May 2012 and debuted at #2 on Billboard’s Top Gospel Albums chart and #8 on Billboard’s R&B Albums chart. His radio single, “One More Time” (featuring John P. Kee) peaked at #4 on Billboard’s Hot Gospel Songs chart. As the soul-stirring “God Held Me Together” works its way around radio, Cortez and Douglas are currently in the planning stages for the singer’s sophomore CD.

Fans can currently see this young superstar on the road as he travels with James Fortune & FIYA, Kierra Sheard and Vashawn Mitchell on the United As One concert tour running through early March 2013.
