“I couldn’t eat or drink. I couldn’t even get out of bed,” Good Morning America’s Christian anchor Robin Roberts, 52, shared in an exclusive PEOPLE Magazine interview. The triumphant MDS survivor, whose relaxed and smiling face is featured on the cover of this week’s issue, is gearing up for her big GMA return Feb. 20.

“I was in a coma-like state. I truly felt I was slipping away,” recalled Robin of her weakest and sickest days. “Then I kept hearing my name.”

After a harrowing battle, it was officially announced last week that Roberts has been cleared to get back to work exactly 5 months to the day she underwent a bone marrow transplant to treat myelodysplastic syndrome or MDS, a rare blood disorder.

“It’s an amazing feeling, each day feeling stronger,” Roberts told PEOPLE.

Currently, there are 7 days left until Roberts’ return and millions of viewers, many of which have been praying for the media personality, are sure to tune in for the celebratory occasion.

In case you missed it, watch the official televised announcement of her return.
