LOCAL NEWS: Accused Chardon High School Shooter TJ Lane In Court Today, Expected To Plead Guilty
Accused Chardon school shooter TJ Lane is scheduled to appear in a Geauga County courtroom Tuesday morning, where he is expected to plead guilty in the shooting deaths of three students and injuring three others.
A hearing is scheduled to begin at 9:30 a.m. before Geauga County Common Pleas Judge David Fuhry. NewsChannel5 plans to offer a live feed of the event (check back just before 9:30 for a link).
Lane originally entered a plea of not guilty by reason of insanity, but NewsChannel5 was the first to report on Feb. 15 that a plea deal was in the works.
Lane’s defense attorney declined to comment on what is expected to unfold in court Tuesday morning, saying he would make any appropriate comments following the hearing.
Lane’s trial was scheduled to begin last month, but was postponed following motions by both prosecutors and defense attorneys that referenced new information in the case.
If convicted at trial, Lane faced life in prison without parole.
