After four visits to Israel, Hall of Fame singer and five-time Grammy winner Larnelle Harris will share some of his personal observations along with his music at the April 11 “Honoring Israel” event at Carnegie Hall in New York. On his newest audio and video projects entitled “Larnelle Live in Nashville,” Harris performs the hymn “I Walked Today Where Jesus Walked” and the multi-Dove-Award winner admits the song is always an emotional experience.

“That song always moves me to tears,” says Harris. “I remember being in the Garden of Gethsemane on one visit to the Holy Land and being struck by the fact that I was standing in one of the last areas that Jesus stood before He was taken to be crucified. And by the way, I visited the tomb where they buried Him too and, I can confirm, He wasn’t there.”

Harris recalls another experience that has stayed with him from his multiple visits to Israel. “When we visited Masada, the palace of Herod the Great, I was struck by the story of the nearly 1000 Jews that revolted against Rome, opting to take their own lives at that place rather than becoming slaves again to the Romans. They remind me of that ‘cloud of witnesses’ that Hebrews talks about. They believed in God’s promises so strongly that they were willing to die for them. I want to have that kind of faith– to be bold, courageous, obedient and prepared, knowing that our promised land – heaven – lies ahead of us.”

In addition to Harris, the April 11 event will feature pianist Dino Kartsonakis, Sandi Patty, the Philadelphia Boys Choir, Denver and the Mile High Orchestra, The Christian Cultural Center Chorale, Robert Stearns, and Daniel Rodriguez. The concert will begin at 8 p.m. at the world famous venue, and proceeds will go toward “Hope for Zion,” a humanitarian non-profit that benefits hungry Jews, Arabs and Druze in Israel, and toward helping to build a study and prayer center in Migdal Arbel, Israel.

Harris performed at Carnegie Hall last year along with fellow tenors Steve Green and Steve Amerson. The trio is featured on the new “Larnelle Live in Nashville” audio and video projects which release to retail this month. The new releases also feature duet performances with Harris and Patty who have previously won two Grammy Awards together.

In addition to his numerous solo concert dates, Harris is also featured on various tours this year including the God of All Glory Tour, Gaither Homecoming tour and the Sandi Patty & Friends tour, the latter of which CCM Magazine reviewed and described Harris as having a “larger-than-life stage presence with impeccable vocal prowess.”

Larnelle Harris is the only person in history to be a member of three distinct hall of fame organizations: the Gospel Music Hall of Fame, the Kentucky Music Hall of Fame and the Amateur Radio Hall of Fame. In addition to his five Grammy and eleven Dove Awards, including being named Male Vocalist of the Year three times by the Gospel Music industry, Harris has garnered nineteen #1 national radio singles and countless top 10 hits. Songs such as “How Excellent Is Thy Name,” “I Miss My Time With You,” “I’ve Just Seen Jesus,” plus many others, including his signature song, “Amen,” are now considered modern gospel classics. From the White House to the 38th Parallel, Harris has impacted audiences across the globe with his music. He was the first gospel artist to perform inside the Kremlin after the fall of the Soviet Union. He is one of a handful of celebrities to receive the Ad Council’s Silver Bell Award for Distinguished Public Service in recognition of his song “Mighty Spirit” as the theme song for the longest-running Public Service Announcement in television history.
