The Cleveland Browns have signed quarterback Jason Campbell to a two-year contract.

Campbell is expected to compete with Brandon Weeden for the starting job this season.

The Browns have been hinting they wanted to bring a veteran quarterback to compete with Weeden this training camp. After being drafted 22nd overall by the Browns in last year’s draft, Weeden was given the starting job in the first week of training camp. Weeden went on to start 15 games in 2012 for the Browns and leading the team to only 5 wins.

Campbell has had a difficult time holding a starting job in his career. He struggled in Washington with bad teams. In Oakland he was injured in a game against the Browns in 2011 and then lost the job when the Raiders acquired Carson Palmer.

He went to Chicago last season as the backup for Jay Cutler and ended up appearing in 6 games.
