1. Landslide on Washington Island Forces Evacuations

A landslide destroyed at least one home and prompted the evacuation of 34 others in Washington state. The landslide broke loose overnight on Whidbey Island, about 50 miles outside of Seattle.

2. Mandela in Hospital With Lung Infection

Former South African President Nelson Mandela was admitted to the hospital just before midnight on Wednesday because of his lung infection. He remains in doctor’s care.

3. Cyprus Banks Open, Limit Transactions

Banks in Cyprus are due to reopen this morning for the first time since March 16. Banks have hired extra security and instituted cash curbs capping total transactions on any cards.

4. Beavers Help Contain Oil Spill

A group of beavers helped contain a Chevron diesel fuel spill in Utah. The six beavers built a dam blocking a large portion of the spill from rolling into Willard State Park.
