Members of Cleveland’s faith community launched a massive anti-gun violence campaign Monday night.
“It’s been a tough 72 hours,” said Pastor Andrew Clark, chief organizer of the Federation of Network Ministries.
He was referring to the weekend shootings at a Cleveland Heights IHOP restaurant and at a church in Ashtabula .
Clark said the campaign will consist of special prayers, workshops and marquee messages, among other things.
“We have to engage and engage and keep engaging until there’s a serious reduction in gun violence in the community,” Clark said.
Meanwhile, Cleveland State University’s Dean of Urban Affairs just completed a study that found nearly a million Americans were either killed or wounded by gunfire between 2001 and 2010.
“We have an epidemic of violence. If we had nearly a million people killed or severely injured through a virus, we would be worried about this as a public health event,” Dr. Ned Hill said.
