We’re all used to seeing and hearing Christian contemporary recording artist Israel Houghton strumming his guitar and leading the masses in worship. But that’s not all there is to the singer, songwriter, and producer.

He has now expanded his ministry into the film industry with his first movie, I’m In Love With A Church Girl, set to premiere October 4.

Houghton, along with his business partner Galley Molina recently launched their movie production company, RGM Films, where the Lakewood Church worship leader and Grammy Award-winner  is Vice President.

Distributed by indie film company, FilmDistrict, I’m In Love With A Church Girl stars rapper-singer Ja Rule, singer-actress Adrienne Bailon, and actor Stephen Baldwin.

Houghton serves as the movie’s executive producer and music composer, along with Oscar-winning composer Bruce Fowler.

The film follows Miles Montego (Ja Rule), who seems to have it all: cars, boats, good looks, mansion, money, women, but also, a criminal past. The high-level drug trafficker is now completely legitimate, but can’t seem to release loyalty to his circle of friends and former colleagues who are still in the business. Therefore, the DEA keeps him in their sights.

While doing his best to walk the straight and narrow path, Miles meets the beautiful girl of his dreams, Vanessa (Adrienne Bailon), who just so happens to be a church girl that really loves God.

Throughout the story, the two grow close, but their relationship is tested in numerous ways as Miles faces seemingly insurmountable odds. One powerful incident, however, is used by God to bring the broken man to his knees, and ultimately, to Jesus.

“Having met Galley and seen the movie, and just really saw the heart of excellence that was behind what was happening here, and the story was amazing, performance was amazing. I was like yeah, I’m in,” said Houghton in an on-camera interview about the film.
