Los Angeles-based filmmaker and former Clevelander Marquette Williams is releasing his fourth film this Father’s Day weekend.

“Fatherhood 101” is a documentary that examines the role that fathers play in the lives of their children.

“We need to know that what we do is really cool,” said Williams. “I wanted to show fathers that you are a celebrity. You are the star of these young peoples’ universe.”

A star to guide young children to a successful life.

“A child without a father?” Williams said, “75 times more likely to be killed. An 85 percent chance of being incarcerated. A child with father? Those numbers drop dramatically.”

Williams became interested in filming the documentary after being introduced to the Cuyahoga County Fatherhood Initiative by former Cuyahoga County Commissioner Peter Lawson Jones. The father-friendly organization is a collaboration of more than two dozen public and private agencies that combine skills and knowledge to benefit fathers.
