Legendary Gospel Artist Edwin Hawkins presents “Praise in the Place,” a two-day fundraising event for the non-profit Edwin Hawkins and Walter Hawkins Music & Arts Love Fellowship Conference. The benefit concerts will take place on Friday, June 28, 2013 at 7:30 pm and Saturday, June 29 at 5:30 pm at Love Center Ministries in Oakland, and will feature some of the biggest names in Gospel music including Grammy and Stellar award-winning artists Donnie McClurkin, Donald Lawrence, The New Edwin Hawkins Singers, Hezekiah Walker, Ted Winn, Ernest Pugh, Anita Wilson, Ricky Dillard and The Love Center Choir, as well as The Porter Brothers and Genesis Church choir and Aaron Arrington and the Facebook Chorale.
Proceeds from the concert will support the ongoing efforts of the non-profit Music & Arts, Inc. which has produced the Music & Arts Love Fellowship Conference for over 30 years.
Edwin Hawkins, the legendary artist behind the wildly successful crossover hit “Oh Happy Day,” is looking forward to a successful event that will raise funds for the Conference and offer a rare opportunity for Bay Area residents to enjoy live performances by some of Gospel’s most notable artists. “This concert is so important to us, not only in providing financial support to the Conference, but in expanding the audience for Gospel music,” explains Hawkins. “The support of the many artists who have volunteered their talents for this event will allow us to further the work that my brother, Walter Hawkins, and I started more than 30 years ago to help give Gospel artists exposure and help in the development of their gifts.”
The Conference was founded by gospel legends Edwin Hawkins and Walter Hawkins to preserve and foster gospel history, traditions and music through performance and educational programs. It hosts delegates from all over the world and provides people of all ages, faiths and cultures with a variety of classes including music writing, performing, dance, theatre and practical business instruction. Special programs for children and youth at the conference focus on developing confidence and self-awareness through group and individual activities.
