Cuyahoga County Executive Ed FitzGerald and Cuyahoga County Clerk of Courts Andrea Rocco say Rocco found $23 million that is due to people from fees and bonds and bond payments made on behalf of parties in civil and criminal cases.
She said the money has been sitting there for decades — dating back to 1986.
Rocco said the names of people owed money — ranging from $10 to just under $1,000 — will be posted online and also in the clerk’soffice.
You have five years to claim your refund and then the money is turned back over to Cuyahoga County to the general fund.

Where was that money?
Rocco said the funds were discovered during an internal audit she requested when she took over for longtime Clerk of Courts Gerald Fuerst.
Rocco said she will hire part-time workers to review more than 172,000 cases dating to 1986 and determine who is owed how much.
The average refund will likely be less than $100, she said.
