Trayvon Martin’s parents, Tracy Martin and Syrbrina Fulton, were reportedly not in the court room when the jury returned a ‘not guilty’ verdict in George Zimmerman’s second degree murder trial for killing their son, Trayvon Martin in Sanford, Florida in February 2012.

Trayvon Martin’s parents have since tweeted their reactions to the verdict, which was handed down on the second day of the jury’s deliberations.

From his account, @BTraymartin952m, Tracy Martin stated in a series of Tweets his heartfelt response to the conclusion of the trial, which many found shocking. Reports and speculations had pointed to the possibility of a manslaughter conviction, as on Saturday the jury had requested information about how to handle aspects of deciding on a manslaughter verdict.

While the Zimmerman family was in the court room, and cameras captured the relief the clan felt in the jury’s unanimous findings, Trayvon Martin’s parents chose Twitter to share their disappointment, while expressing gratitude towards supporters.

“Even though I am broken hearted my faith is unshattered I WILL ALWAYS LOVE MY BABY TRAY,” Tracy Martin tweeted. “Thanks to everyone who are with us and who will be with us as together we can make sure that this doesn’t happen again,” he added.

Trayvon Martin’s father also reflected: “God blessed Me & Sybrina with Tray and even in his death I know my baby proud of the FIGHT we along with all of you put up for him GOD BLESS[.]“

Syrbrina Fulton sent one tweet, saying from her @SybrinaFulton handle, “Lord during my darkest hour I lean on you. You are all that I have. At the end of the day, GOD is still in control. Thank you all for your prayers and support. I will love you forever Trayvon!!! In the name of Jesus!!!”
