Cleveland police are encouraging residents to know their neighbor in an effort to deter crime. The message comes as the city marked its 25th “Mayor’s Night Out Against Crime,” which is part of the national “Night Out Against Crime” event.
“Just being aware of your surroundings makes a huge difference,” said Cmdr. Wayne Drummond of the 5th District Cleveland Police.
Cleveland resident Norman Carter is very aware of what’s going on on Ablewhite Street, his residence for more than 40 years.
“Everybody knows me,” said Carter, a retired pipe fitter.
Carter makes it a point to know his neighbors and keep his street tidy by cutting others’ lawns.
“If something goes out of the ordinary, then I’ll contact the owner,” he added
