100 men in Northeast Ohio proved the old saying “Real Men Wear Pink” Tuesday evening.

Susan G. Komen of Northeast Ohio kicked off Breast Cancer Awareness month by hosting the “Pink Tie Guy” event in downtown Cleveland.

Each man donated $1,008 in honor of the one in eight women who will be diagnosed with breast cancer in their lifetime.

“Tonight we raised $100,000 in one quick cocktail party. It’s no coordinating of spouses, no selling tables, no fuss, it’s simple, straight forward. It’s easy. Guys like easy,” said Robert Falls, one of the 100 men in attendance.

Each man received a custom tie, specially designed by J3 Clothing Company.

“This tie symbolizes a true commitment to the fight against breast cancer,” said Sean Shacklett, executive director of Susan G. Komen Northeast Ohio. “The Pink Tie Guy program is a campaign about awareness but is also a way to raise money. We’re engaging men in the breast cancer movement and empowering them to be involved.”
