Chris Tomlin
It shouldn’t be a surprise to find Chris Tomlin in the running for Artist of the Year. The worship leader and songwriter from Grand Saline, Texas, has been nominated for the award 5 times previously. Of those, he won twice. This year could make lucky number 3 for him. His 2013 album Burning Lights debuted at No. 1 on the Billboard 200 chart, only the fourth Christian album ever to do so. This 7th album shows how he’s matured as an artist, but one thing will never change for Tomlin. “It’s always going to be for me songs that are written from the heart of worshiping God: simple, singable songs that can hopefully find their way into the Church and that really help people to worship God and give them a voice to sing,” he says. It’s this message that keeps Tomlin returning again and again as a contender for Artist of the Year.
