The Cleveland skyline will get a little bit larger in the spring of 2016.

“When was the last time there was an addition to the Cleveland skyline?” Cuyahoga County Executive Ed FitzGerald asked. “When was it? And if you have a skyline that isn’t growing year after year, that probably means the city isn’t growing.”

Growth is coming in the form of a new hotel on the site of the old County Administration building. That much we have known. But Tuesday night we got our first look at renderings of the project.

Renderings show a huge glass structure that will be attached to the new convention center, serving as an above-ground marker for the underground facility.

“This will change the skyline of the city of Cleveland,” says project manager Jeff Appelbaum. “It won’t be the tallest building in Cleveland, but it will be extremely prominent — because of its location.
