An evacuation of approximately 400 homes is underway after a chemical spill in Willard overnight.
According to the city’s Twitter page, the incident occurred in the Willard rail yard.
Reports indicate that a rail car — containing highly flammable liquid — developed a significant hole and the liquid is pouring out of the tanks.
That liquid is said to be “styrene monomer,” which is a highly flammable substance. It is commonly used in packing materials.
The city is asking anyone who within a half mile of the Main Street underpass to evacuate their homes.
Willard Public Safety and CSX clean-up crews are at the scene.
