The Ohio State Highway Patrol is on the scene of a multiple-vehicle accident on the Ohio Turnpike.

All three lanes of westbound traffic near mile marker 89, just west of Fremont, are shut down due to the accident.

OSHP says they were attempting to pursue a speeding vehicle for several miles at a high rate of speed. Officials say the vehicle was traveling between 125 and 150 miles per hour, and it hit at least three other vehicles over the course of 17 miles.

One of the final vehicles hit was a van from Toledo, which burst into flames as a result of the crash, around 7:15 p.m.

OSHP says both occupants of the van were killed.

The driver of the speeding vehicle is a 24-year-old male from the Kent, OH area, who was taken to the hospital with minor injuries.
