Breaking away with the traditional, Franklin D. Roosevelt Academy has a pool table in the center of its school. In fact, it a game room. They are also building learning stations, computer rooms and adding to its library.

They are sharing the space with the Boys and Girls Clubs. Its Director of operations Allen Smith says there is a point to making the game room center stage.

He says, “they want to engage in the program they want to find out more about what we are doing.”

The money for the collaboration came from the state. Ohio Attorney General Mike Dewine approved a grant that allows the club to expand. The Boys and Girls Club was given $200,000 but it was the principal William Hayes who pushed to get the club in his school.

“I made a lot of noise. I was very much consistent to advocating for the students to have opportunities to get enrichments during the school year and after school,” said William Hayes.
