Grammy Award-winning gospel leader Pastor Marvin L. Winans will headline the annual Classical Roots concert at Cincinnati’s Music Hall in March.

Winans, who received an enthusiastic reception for his cameo appearance during the 2012 Classical Roots concert, will perform the world premiere of his own work, “Even Me, Lord,” and other selections. He is the founder and pastor of Perfecting Church in Detroit, with a membership of more than 4,500 and outreach programs such as the Marvin L. Winans Academy of Performing Arts. Winans is a multiple Grammy, Stellar and Dove-winning recording artist, and a member of the legendary gospel quartet, The Winans.

Classical Roots is the Cincinnati Symphony’s annual celebration of African-American musical traditions. This season’s theme is the power of song, which can lift spirits and inspire communities. The concert will include selections from the classical repertoire, as well as traditional and contemporary African-American spiritual and gospel.

Joining Winans will be the Classical Roots Community Mass Choir. Now in its fourth year, the all-volunteer choir is comprised of dozens of singers from African-American churches across the Greater Cincinnati region.
