Each year the Academy Awards’ Board of Governors collectively comes together to celebrate the various achievements in motion pictures. And with that difficult task of deciding which few films — out of many — will become Oscar-nominee worthy, comes the inevitable oversight of films that may also deserve recognition.

Since January’s Oscar nod announcement, many have viewed “Lee Daniels’ The Butler” as one of this year’s biggest snub.

“I think you can never predict things of that nature. There were a lot of amazing performances this year,” the film’s lead star, Forest Whitaker, admitted during aninterview with HuffPost Live. “I felt really proud of the work that I got a chance to do with some great artists on ‘The Butler.’ But again, there’s a number of other films that were exceptional. You just celebrate everybody when they get recognized for their work.”

In honor of this Sunday’s 86th annual Academy Awards, we decided to highlight 10 black films, that were worthy of receiving an Oscar nomination. Feel to tell us your favorites in the comments section.
