Pastor and gospel singer Marvin Sapp’s Grand Rapids Ellington Academy of Arts and Technology charter school is partnering with Amway and the nonprofit KaBOOM! to build a playground at the school.

The school, located at 600 Burton Ave. SE, currently serves more than 400 students in preschool through ninth grade but will add a grade each year until 12th grade.

“We are extremely thankful for Amway’s support to build a KaBOOM! playground for our student-artists,” said Sapp, a Grammy-nominated artist, who said news of the 3,500 square-foot playground has brought a lot of joy to the student body.

Ellington student-artists will participate in a Design Day on Thursday, April 17, in which students will imagine, design and draw their dream playground. Elements from the drawings will be incorporated into the final design for the playground.
