The first of four new PlayhouseSquare welcoming arches has risen over Huron Road at Prospect Avenue just east of East Ninth Street.

The copper-colored ornamental gateways are part of an exciting facelift for the entertainment district.

The second gateway was installed late Thursday night into Friday morning at East 14th Street and Prospect Avenue.

When completed in May, other additions will include new theater signage, some in a retro motif, and the world’s largest outdoor chandelier.

The GE Chandelier is named for its sponsor, East Cleveland-based GE Lighting. It is 20 feet high and is adorned with 4,200 crystals and will hang more than four-stories high over Euclid Avenue.

The total cost for all upgrades is $16 million.
