The cash reward for information leading to the identification and arrest of any person or persons responsible for the recent Lakewood Church theft is now set at $25,000, according to Houston Crime Stoppers.

The bold theft, in which $200,000 in cash, $400,000 in checks and an undetermined number of credit card slips were taken, was discovered Monday, March 10, as staffers prepared to process the weekend’s collections for deposit.

Church spokeswoman Andrea Davis said the church is staffed around the clock by security guards, one of whom – an off-duty Harris County sheriff’s deputy – was present when the theft was discovered.

Houston Police Department spokesman Victor Senties said the theft likely occurred between 2:30 p.m. Sunday, March 9, and 8:30 a.m. the next day.
