The bond between kids and dogs can even extend into the classroom. Charles Mooney School in the Cleveland school district is using therapy dogs to improve reading scores.

“They are more confident, fluent and read with more expression,” says teacher Rachal Mann. This was Mann’s idea to start the PAWS program at the school.

First- to third-graders at the school work with the volunteers for Therapy Dogs International.

They started the program in January.

Principal Brynn Morgan says it has given the kids more confidence and is also calming to the children.
