The deadline to enroll into a health plan under the Affordable Care Act is fast approaching, and local communities and health centers are spreading the word.

Friday, “Enrollment on Wheels” was at MetroHealth Medical Center’s main campus from noon until 5 p.m.

Some people can request an extension if they’re having problems enrolling but started the process by the March 31 deadline.

In most cases, if you don’t have health insurance, you’ll have to pay a penalty on next year’s tax return, which is $95 or one percent of your income, whichever is greater.

At Lorain County Health and Dentistry, counselors have been very busy. Just this week their three counselors have enrolled 75 people in the Marketplace and into the Medicaid expansion. They’ve enrolled more than 700 people since the rollout of the ACA in October.
