MetroHealth insurance experiment has saved taxpayers $50 million and could become a model for Medicaid expansion around the country.

The Care Plus program has changed 28,000 lives for the better in just a year.

The program covered health care for those 28,000 uninsured people in Cuyahoga County. The concept? Simple. Give people care they need, health improves, and costs are lowered. It worked.

It resulted in a 60 percent decrease in emergency room visits, lower costs, better care and better outcomes.

The secret weapon is nurse coordinators like Kyle Edwards.

“We’re that liaison. We’re the advocate for everything that the patient might need,” Edwards said.
