A former employee of a Veterans Affairs hospital in Dayton, Ohio, entered the facility and shot a current worker in one of his ankles during a struggle in a break room Monday, police said.

A suspect, Neil Moore, 59, was arrested later at a different hospital where he sought “psychiatric services,” Dayton Police Chief Richard Biehl told reporters.

The wounded man was being treated for a non-life-threatening injury, Biehl said.

Police learned of the shooting at 12:10 p.m. Authorities didn’t believe there were any other victims or gunmen, but police were searching the facility room-by-room to make sure, and the hospital was closed to the public until further notice, facility CEO Glenn Costie said.

Police said the victim was shot while Moore — who the hospital said had retired from his job in the housekeeping department — struggled with him in a basement break room.

The motive wasn’t immediately clear, Biehl said. The police chief said Moore might have known the victim, but investigators didn’t immediately know how well they knew each other, if at all.
