Amanda Berry and Gina DeJesus were honored Tuesday evening at the National Center for Missing & Exploited Children’s HOPE Awards in Washington, D.C.

Berry and DeJesus were rescued one year ago today from their decade-long captivity on Seymour Avenue.

The pair expressed their gratefulness of being presented with the 2014 HOPE award.

“Never give up hope because miracles do happen,” Berry said with tears in her eyes.

“Always believe in hope, even though sometimes it is hard to believe, just pray to God and God will give you that hope,” DeJesus said.
