Last night’s storms left a wake of damage across Northeast Ohio. Many people experienced flooding, sewer backup, fallen trees, roof and siding damage, and much more.

The Better Business Bureau is reminding those with damages to be extra careful when selecting a contractor, and making repair decisions. It is very common for people to be taken advantage of when your home, car or property is damaged.

The first thing you should do is contact your insurance company. Check your policy and filing requirements. Save all your receipts-food, lodging, repairs-those things may be covered under your policy.

Don’t let your emotions make the decisions. Think every decision through and don’t let yourself be pressured into a sales solicitation.

Make temporary repairs so you have the time to get three or four estimates on major repairs. Check with the BBB, references, and verify every business with the city building department. Ensure they have all licenses and insurance.
