What a difference a year has made for Amanda Berry and Gina DeJesus.

The two women and their families have returned from a trip to Washington, DC. Amanda and Gina were honored on May 6, the one year anniversary of their escape, by the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children. They two received a Hope Award from the organization.

Amanda, Gina and their families also visited the White House during the trip and according to People Magazine had the chance to meet with Vice President Joe Biden. President Obama also stopped by.

In addition to the White House, Amanda and Gina visited the National Zoo and National Cathedral.

The two women and Michelle Knight escaped from Ariel Castro’s house on Seymour Avenue on May 6, 2013 after being held for nearly a decade.
