There is a new place in downtown Knoxville to praise the Lord and it’s not in a church.

Studio X Nightclub on The Strip hosted its second church service ever on Sunday night.

“My mother had the idea of doing a Sunday service in a club atmosphere and I thought it was kind of wild at first and then I pretty much came up with the conclusion that you can have church practically anywhere,” said Boo Jackson, the owner of Studio X.

The idea came together in August.

Jackson teamed up with Word of Life Ministries Pastor Kevin Perry.

“I shared my vision that God had given me and at first he was like, ‘Church in a nightclub?'” Pastor Perry said.

Studio X hosted the first church service in May, when about 80 people attended.

Jackson and Pastor Perry will continue to have a service every first Sunday of the month. They said it’s their way of reaching out to the people who may not belong to a church.

“Now people are calling me… they used to just call me… to see what was going on in the nightlife during the week. What’s the party tonight? Now they’re asking, ‘When is First Sunday?’ or ‘What time is First Sunday?'” Jackson said.
