The recent Hollywood influx of successful faith-based films has paved the way for Christian
filmmakers, producers and executives to get a seat at the table.
Among the latest beneficiaries is 36-year-old preacher and movie executive DeVon Franklin, who has inked a
first-look production deal with Sony Pictures Entertainment.
EEW Magazine sources have confirmed reports that the faith-based film enthusiast is leaving his post as Senior
Vice President of Production for Columbia Tristar Pictures.
Now, under his namesake production company, Franklin Entertainment, he will create faith-based entertainment
for television and film full time.
“This faith-based content matters to us, it’s a super profitable niche and DeVon with Sony has demonstrated
leadership to that space,” Belgrad said in an interview with Variety, discussing Franklin’s exit.
“It’s clear that his ambition was to get closer to the product and maintain his speaking and writing career.”
It appears this production deal is a win-win for all involved.
For mainstream Hollywood, Franklin’s sharp eye for faith-based movies that sell tickets make him a great
financial asset. For Franklin, who is a devoted Christian, he gets to see the faith he is so passionate about
spread across the big screen.
