1. IMMIGRATION CRISIS

Funding standoff: The White House says the nation’s immigration crisis is only going to get worse unless Congress antes up. President Barack Obama wants $3.7 billion in emergency funding to deal with flood of Central American children illegally entering the United States from Mexico. Critics say the President needs to shore up the nation’s borders and change policy before he’ll see any money

2. GOP TO SUE OBAMA

See you in court: Remember last week when the President said to Republicans, “So sue me,” if they didn’t like the way he was doing things? Well, challenge accepted. House Speaker John Boehner said the lawsuit will argue thatObama violated the Constitution by unilaterally delaying the law’s requirement for businesses to provide coverage. The Republican-led House is expected to vote on a resolution authorizing legal action at the end of the month, right before lawmakers head home to campaign for midterm elections.

3. MIDEAST TENSIONS

Under pressure: The residents of Gaza fear an Israeli ground offensive is in the offing. About 30,000 reservistshave been called up by the Israelis to fortify their military forces. “We’re ready to go, if we need to go,” said government spokesman Mark Regev. Rockets continue to fly from Gaza, while Israel peppers the Palestinian territory with airstrikes. About 100 have died in Gaza. None in Isarel.
