The opening ceremony for Gay Games 9 is just days away, but Cleveland police have been preparing for thousands of people to converge on Cleveland for years. The games will span three counties, seven days and many venues.

The bomb squad, K-9 unit, aviation and mounted police will all be involved in security. Many other law enforcement agencies will also be involved. “Quite heavy for the bigger events, layered security approach,” said Commander Harold Pretel.

Dozens of other law enforcement agencies are also taking part in the security plan, including the FBI. “We will be there if needed, ” said Special Agent Vicki Anderson.

“The public is our biggest partner. See something, send something,” added Pretel. There is an app for that according to Pretel. The app is called Safer Ohio and available for smartphones.
