A big trifecta of sports events will bring big crowds, big money and media coverage galore to the Akron-Canton area this weekend.

There’s a trio of A-list events.

The World Golf Championships-Bridgestone Invitational golf tournament will draw the biggest names and best golfers to Firestone Country Club. Tiger Woods has won the tournament eight times and says he’s always confident playing here. The tournament will draw an estimated 90,000 visitors, spending $21 million through Sunday.

The Invitational donates a $1 million a year to charity. It has chosen Rainbow Babies & Children’s Hospital in Cleveland and Akron Children’s Hospital as its new signature charities.

In Canton, the Pro Football Hall of Fameis ready for its annual celebration of NFL greats and history. Seven new inductees will be enshrined and the week-long festivities will mean $32 million for the Canton/Stark County economy.

Those two events often overlap but a third event is raising the stakes this weekend.

On Saturday, the Cleveland Browns will scrimmage before a sold-out, 25,000-person crowd at the University of Akron’s Infocision Stadium and it could be a dress rehearsal of more Browns football to come.
