In a world where Oscar-winning actress Lupita Nyong’o is named PEOPLE’s “Most Beautiful,”

still, outside those glossy magazine pages, the dark skin versus light skin controversy lives on.

The self-hatred of some people of color that believe lighter is better has permeated their psyche and left them

presuming that everyone feels that way.

This is something actress Meagan Good finds herself fighting against.

“Get. Yo. Life,” said the Christian actress and preacher’s wife in a lengthy Instagram rant responding to skin

bleaching rumors.

On Monday, Aug. 11, the 33-year-old smacked down speculation that she has lightened her body or hair (She

recently went blonde.) to appear more Caucasian as a means of opening doors in Hollywood.

“I can’t believe I’m actually going to address this nonsense,” she started out, then added, “I have young women

who follow me – so I think its important to give clarity because I believe that black and every other color is

beautiful.”

While it is true that mainstream media mass distributes images of black women skewed toward the lighter-toned

ones with Anglo features, not everyone is brainwashed.
