Gospel turned secular recording artist Mali Music—real name Kortney Jamaal Pollard—has fans in high places.
GRAMMY® winner Jennifer Hudson, 33, who is currently making her rounds promoting her new R&B album, JHUD, gushed about the “Beautiful” singer during a New York radio interview.
“My favorite artist is Mali Music,” she told DJ Envy, Angela Yee, and Charlamagne Tha God, hosts of Power 105. 1’s popular syndicated morning show “The Breakfast Club”.
The vocalist who rose to fame as an American Idol contestant mentioned him in response to a question regarding who she most wanted to bring with her on tour.
With deep roots in the Christian market, Mali remains largely unknown in mainstream circles, though he is steadily gaining popularity.
“See, y’all don’t even know who he is. Y’all gotta look up Mali Music. Trust me,” Jennifer said, advocating for the eclectic musician.
“He just transitioned to secular music. He was originally a gospel artist, but when I tell you he is so dope, that is really my dream artist.”
Owing to Jennifer’s endorsement of Mali’s music, the Savannah, Georgia native got the opportunity to perform before millions of viewers on FOX’s American Idol in March.
